Chaff Cutter Buying Guide: Kutti Machine for Dairy Farms

Two numbers decide whether a kutti machine suits your herd: kilograms per hour, and millimetres of cut length.

A chaff cutter — the kutti machine every dairy farm knows — exists to turn long fodder into uniform, digestible pieces. Do that well and feed wastage drops sharply. Do it badly and cattle sort through the manger, leaving the coarse material behind.

Capacity: match it to your herd

Our chaff cutter processes 800 to 2000 kg of green or dry fodder per hour, depending on model and drive. For a small herd, the lower end of that range is plenty. For a commercial dairy preparing feed twice a day, the higher capacity is what keeps feed preparation from eating the morning.

Cut length: 6 to 25 mm, adjustable

Short cuts suit young stock and green fodder. Longer cuts suit dry roughage, where some fibre length aids rumination. Because the cut is adjustable from 6 to 25 mm on the same machine, you are not buying two machines for two jobs.

Consistency is what actually matters — and consistency comes from roller feeding, not from how fast the operator pushes material in.

Electric motor or tractor PTO

A 3 to 5 HP electric motor is quieter, cheaper to run and ideal where you have reliable three-phase supply near the shed. A tractor PTO drive makes sense where power is unreliable or where the machine moves between locations. Both options use the same three hardened steel blades on a dynamically balanced flywheel.

Safety is not optional

  • Never feed material with hands past the feed roller line — use a push stick, always, even for the last handful.
  • Keep every guard in place; the flywheel does not stop instantly.
  • Switch off at the source before clearing a jam, not just at the lever.
  • Keep children away from the working area entirely.
  • Sharpen blades on schedule — a blunt blade needs more force to feed, and force is where accidents begin.

Fodder it handles

Green and dry fodder, maize, jowar, napier grass, berseem, lucerne, sugarcane tops, and wheat or paddy straw — including bhusa produced by a straw loader.

Chaff cutter price

Kutti machine price depends on the drive option, cutting capacity and whether you add the high-lift blower. We quote factory-direct as the manufacturer. Call +91-8799656981 or send an enquiry for the current price and your nearest dealer.
